I declare: AI art is art. Not its shadow, not a counterfeit, not a trick. It is a new form, born at the same point where art has always been born: where a person sees what does not yet exist and demands that it appear.
MANIFESTO of the tandem.
The human sets the task.
The machine gives it form.
Art is born between them.
Art has never been alone. Ochre and the cave wall. Brush and canvas. Chisel and marble. Camera and light. Each time, the artist entered into an alliance with material and tool, and each time, contemporaries cried that this was the end of art. Photography was called the killer of painting. The readymade was called a mockery. Video was called television. History has answered them all.
An infinity
of possibilities.
Not a single intention.
Today the artist has a new kind of co-author: a machine that can give form, but cannot want. It knows everything that has been and nothing of what ought to be. It has an infinity of possibilities and not a single intention. I call this a tandem. Not a tool and not a replacement. A tandem.
In the tandem, the roles are unequal, but both are necessary. The machine provides the hand, speed, and the memory of all human image-making. The human provides vision, a question, will and choice. Without the human, the machine produces noise. Without the machine, the human remains within the limits of muscle and lifespan. Together they do what neither could do alone.
CHOICE IS
CREATION.
I maintain: the central act of art is setting the task. Not the brushstroke, but the decision about what that brushstroke should be. Not execution, but conception. The artist has always been, above all, someone who sees differently. The hand served the eye. Now vision is freed from the servitude of the hand.
Choosing is creation. Rejecting is creation. Out of a thousand images, I keep one and destroy nine hundred and ninety-nine. In this selection are my taste, my biography, my pain, my era. The machine does not know why this one. Only I do.
We pay not for sweat —
we pay for meaning.
The value of art has never been measured in hours of labour. We pay not for sweat — we pay for meaning. A painting is valuable not for the days spent making it, but for what it reveals. Therefore I declare: AI art is no less valuable than any other art. Its value is determined as it always has been: by the strength of the idea, the precision of the statement, and the ability to change the viewer’s way of seeing.
I oppose two lies. The first is that the machine creates on its own. This is said by those who wish to evade responsibility or sell emptiness. The second is that working with a machine is not creative work. This is said by those who fear the new just as their predecessors feared photography.
I oppose the flood. The endless feed of generated images released without vision and without selection. Ease of production does not remove the need for rigour — it increases it tenfold. The easier it becomes to obtain an image, the more valuable the decision about which one deserves to exist.
I take responsibility. Every work bears my name, and I answer for its meaning, truth and consequences. I remember that the machine’s memory is woven from the work of millions of artists, and I treat this legacy with respect: I do not copy another artist’s signature style or pass off their work as my own. I draw from the past as artists have always drawn from their teachers — in order to speak in my own voice.
I seek what has not existed before. The tandem opens territory unavailable to earlier art: between human intention and machine surprise, where images are born that no hand could make and no mind could conceive alone. AI changes more than the image — it changes the question of what it means to create and to be human. In this world, the artist is the keeper of meaning amid an abundance of forms.
I am not defending the machine. I am defending the human in alliance with the machine. I do not wait for history’s permission — history has always granted it to those who act. The future of art belongs neither to the human without the machine nor to the machine without the human.
